Description

The BMD-1 Боевая Машина Десанта (Combat Vehicle of the Airborne) is a Soviet Airborne tracked infantry fighting vehicle. It has amphibious capabilities and can be air-dropped by parachute.

It was used as and equivalent of the BMP IFV for the Soviet VDV Airborne divisions.

It's crew consists of two soldiers driver and gunner. The positions of bow machine gunners and commander are occupied by the transported soldiers.

The cramped Troop compartment was designed to save weight at the expense of crew commodity.

The vehicle is armed with a 73mm 2A28 Grom main gun and a coaxial 7.62mm PKT machine-gun. On top of the turret there's a 9S428 ATGM launcher. There's two PKT 7.62mm machine guns fixed in both front corners of the bow.
