Description

The Mil Mi-8 (NATO designator Hip) is a Soviet twin-turbine transport helicopter which also has armed versions. It has been exported to more than 50 countries in big numbers, making it one of the most produced helicopters in the World.

Variants of the Mi-8 have been designed to be used as VIP transport, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, assault, artillery spotter and airborne command post.

Its design was rushed into service after the Bell UH-1 showed its great proficiency in air assaults during the Vietnam War.
